Independent and family-led since 2008, with roots in the Knox community going back to 1987. We exist so people feel seen, heard and connected.
Knox Audiology’s beginnings go back to 1987, when Helen Campbell began working within the Knox community at local medical clinics and alongside the independent audiology services they referred their patients to. It was here that Helen developed a deep connection with the local community and saw first-hand the value of truly independent hearing healthcare.
The original Knox Audiology practice was founded by ENT and audiology specialist, Burkhard Franz, driven by a passion for providing expert, personal hearing care to the local community.
In 2008, Helen took the helm. At that time, Knox Audiology was beautifully simple: one centre, one testing room and two audiologists. But Helen saw far more than a small audiology practice. She saw the opportunity to build a place where people would feel known, listened to and genuinely cared for.
Hearing has never been simply about hearing aids or test results. It is about connection – to family, conversation, confidence, independence and the life each person wants to keep living.
That belief has shaped every step of our growth. Over the years, Knox Audiology has expanded well beyond traditional hearing care into paediatric audiology, auditory processing, tinnitus, balance and dizziness, and complex diagnostic services. Yet the philosophy has remained unchanged: highly skilled, independent care centred on the person, never the product.
Today, our team supports families across Melbourne’s east and north, but we still carry the spirit of that original one-room practice with us.
As hearing care in Australia has consolidated into large chains and manufacturer-owned clinics, we’ve deliberately stayed independent.
It means our audiologists sit with the person in front of them and ask what do you actually need, not what are we expected to sell. They can recommend technology across every major brand and help you find what genuinely fits your hearing, your lifestyle and your budget.
It also means we get to stay curious. If we see a better way to do something, we do it. If our community needs a service we don’t yet offer, we ask whether we should build it.
We never wanted Knox to feel transactional. We wanted it to feel like the local practice where you’re known, listened to and treated as a person – clinically excellent, genuinely innovative, and above all, human.
CEO
Helen’s background is nursing, health and somatic coaching and a long-standing fascination with what helps people heal, connect and thrive. She sees her role at Knox as the person asking the questions – what’s possible, who needs help, how we do it better, and bringing together the right people to turn that into exceptional care.
“I want people walking through our doors to feel: come in, tell us your story, we will listen. Then we’ll walk alongside you to find the best way forward.”

“A hand up, not simply a handout.”
We’ve been giving through B1G1 since 2010, not to tick a social responsibility box, but because profit alone was never enough reason to keep building. Every appointment at Knox now contributes to projects around the world.
We may be a local healthcare business, but we don’t think our care should stop at our own front door.
Whether it’s your hearing, your child’s, or someone you love,
we’re ready to listen.
